For hundreds of years, pilgrims of all ages, shapes, sizes and faiths have walked the 487 mile Camino de Santiago de Compostela (in English, The Way of Saint James of Compostela) to find spiritual and physical renewal. Pilgrims walking alone or in groups form lasting bonds in communion with one another along the route through Northern Spain. Many express profound joy at completing the journey and at encountering God and neighbor in love, peace and unity.
As we enter the Holy Season of Lent, again under very unusual circumstances, the Parishioners of Saint Leo the Great (and all who wish to share in our renewal, communion and joy) are invited to embark on this journey of faith without leaving New Jersey! This Lent, join in walking the Virtual Camino with other Parishioners as a penitential devotion.
By committing to participate in this unique and extraordinary Lenten prayer opportunity, you agree to walk each day, anywhere you want, by yourself or with a group. Follow your journey along the Camino route virtually using one of the recommended apps. You can also record your miles along the pilgrim path and monitor your progress toward completion of the full Camino. As you walk, pray the Rosary, a favorite devotion, or simply open your heart and mind to God's loving Presence.
If you cannot finish the route during Lent, just keep going until you do. There is no obligation to complete the Camino in 40 days.
